Clinical Study on the Rectal Prolapse

Abstract
Clinics review is made on 61 cases of rectal prolapse treated at Chonnam University Hospital from January, 1956 to December, 1964.
The ratio of male to female was about 3 to 1, 46(75.4%) being male and 15(24.6%) female. In the majority, age ranged from 21 to 40 years (45.9%). Chronic diarrhea constipation and respiratory disease were implicated as the most principal precipitating factor and cases of unknown causes were 25. Duration of symptoms was as follows: 29 patients were within 1 year and 14 were over 5 years. All of them were suffered from anal protruding mass after defecation and frequent complaints were anal bleeding and perineal pain.
Mild cases were treated conservatively and 32 cases were treated surgically. Recurrence developed in seven of those treated surgically.
